Bound In Oblivion Frequently Asked Questions:
What kind of gear do you use?
Today we are using: EMU E64 Sampler, Alesis Ion, Access Virus Ti, Ensoniq 16+, Ibanez Guitars, M-Audio Micro track, Shotwave radios and a number of out board fx. Just about anything we can get our hands on. 1000 different sound sources.
Macintosh G5, Apple Logic Pro, Bias Peak, NI Battery, NI Contact. We try to keep it an even mix of hardware and software.
What bands/music have you sampled?
None! We simply dont do that, and believe strongly that it is wrong. All sounds are 100% original with the exception of the samples taken from movies. We spend more than half the time writing a song making and layering the sounds we use.
But you say you sample?
Yes, but what most people dont understand is that when we say we use "Samples," we are not referring to taking drum beats or music from classic songs and looping them to use in our songs. Thanks to Rap, Pop, and P-Diddy that's what most of amerika thinks "Sampling" is.
Sampling is the act of taking sounds from any sound source (short wave radios, microphones, etc) and making those sounds into workable instruments. In our case we use everything from ambient noise, field recordings, and other keyboards. Since when you turn on a sampler there are no sounds in it, you can make what ever you like.
Every sound has a timber and a musical note value no matter how harsh it may be.
Do you play live?
Yes, but currently at the moment there are no shows planned. In 2006 we do intend on playing a few select venues.
How much of your set will be "Live" vs. Pre-recorded backing tracks?
Almost all. One of the reasons we are not playing live currently is because we dont have drummer. We believe a live show should be live, not Industrial karaoke. This adds a certin element of energy and randomness that you don't get these days with Electronic and Industrial acts. If you want to listen to pre-recorded music, buy a CD.
